Name: | Skye Alegra Matheson |
---|---|
Birthdate: | May 9 |
Skye Alegra Matheson grew up in Jacksonville, Florida. She is half Italian (from her mom's side) and half Irish (from her dad's), but their family have been in America since well before her parents decided to have kids. Her Italian side are direct descendants of the New York Mafia that was infamous in the 1920s during Prohibition, and ironically, her Irish side had previously links with the IRA when it was at its peak. She is the second of five children, and first daughter, with three sisters (Julia, 3 years younger, and Katrina, 5 years younger) and two brothers (Nick, 3 years older, and Harry, 7 years younger).
Like her siblings, she's incredibly creative, and while she does enjoy painting and drawing like Nick, she found that it always served as a means to an end... the end being creating pieces of jewelry. She took a class in jewelry making in summer camp at age 11, and has been hooked ever since. While she could've studied anything she wanted, she got licensed as a lifeguard, and spent all of her free time creating pieces of jewelry that she sells online through an Etsy shop. One of her favorite things to do, much like her brothers, is surf, and making jewelry and lifeguarding sort of keep her near the beach, where she draws the vast majority of her inspiration. She makes pieces using precious stones, but her favorite pieces she's ever made have been made with shells and seaglass.
The beach is definitely her home, but she wants to grow her business, which is what eventually led to her contributing one of her favorite designs to a contest from FABULOUS magazine, where they were seeking for new, fresh ideas and a young designer to work with one of the more established names in New York City.
